Fordlândia in Revue Fuellerton

A portfolio of images from the Fordlândia project are included in the premiere issue of Revue Fuellerton.

Fuellerton is a Parisian journal with literature, journalism, and art from across the globe. They have created this video to promote the new publication, with a preview of the first issue and some animations on the content, including Fordlândia:

Fordlândia Exhibition Press

A number of blogs and print publications have written short reviews of the Fordlândia exhibition at Les Territoires. Merriah at artintake.com has a short review of the exhibition on her blog. The project itself has received a nice little writeup on the Montréal-based Rapporteurs Photo. Blog Mention from Emerson Muzeli

I’ve received a mention in the blog of Brazilian film director Emerson Muzeli, who is currently working on a new film about Fordlândia. His website is fordlandia.com.br, and the blog post can be found at fordlandia.com.br/blog/?p=129.

My very rough translation (with the help of Google):

The Canadian photographer Scott Chandler, who specializes in “unusual places”, was in the Amazon to photograph Fordlândia for his photography project. The project has resulted in a beautiful exhibition which has already been awarded honorable mentions and is taking place between September 1^st — 20^th at the prestigious gallery “Les Territoires” in the city of Montreal, Canada.

It is interesting to see how the value of this “place” that is Fordlândia happens all the time in various places in the world. Whenever I come across news or meet people who were there or who are somehow doing something for the place, I am looking to contact them and talk about the possibilities we have of doing something for Fordlândia.

Optic Nerve Honourable Mention

My image Playground, Fordlândia image has received an honourable mention in Blackflash’s Optic Nerve competition. Some of my colleagues also received mentions: Jasmine Bakalarz, Mike Love, and Karen Zalamea. Jurors’ Choice Award at Center

I have been granted a Jurors’ Choice for the Project Competition award by Center in Santa Fe, for my Fordlândia project. The award includes complimentary participation in Review Santa Fe, which I will be attending in June.

Over 700 contestants applied for the award, and Center has put together this nice video to highlight some of the entries and their thoughts on jurying:

I am part of a group exhibition at the Art Gallery of Peel in Brampton, Ontario with the artists Jeff Bark, Stefanie Fiore, Rafael Goldchain, Laura Letinsky, Robert Polidori, P. Elaine Sharpe, and Greg Staats. It is curated by Fausta Facciponte. The show includes a few pieces from my Funeral Homes series and two new pieces from my current project of strip club interiors.

Outdoor Art Review in Mondo Magazine

I did the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition again last weekend, and got a nice quick mention in Mondo Magazine’s review of the show, courtesy of Matt McGreachy:

Scott Chandler stood out among the photographers, especially for his “Hotel Lobbies” series. The eerie panoramic shots of some famous hotel lobbies were haunting not only because they were completely empty, but because they seemed somehow to be such a part of our modern psychic landscapes. His concern with how humans relate to constructed spaces is so important because now more than ever it seems that humans are highly mobile and constantly encountering strange, constructed spaces, just like hotel lobbies, and are forced to confront them as real spaces, rather than the carefully planned and decorated rooms that they are.
